Meadow Brook Hall 3D Virtual Tour
Overview
Developed an immersive virtual tour using Matterport for Meadow Brook Hall, the great estate of Maltida Dodge Wilson, founder of Oakland University, Michigan’s first female leutenant Governor, and widow to John Dodge. The current model includes nearly 30,000 sqft of the main interior, highlighting much of the estate’s unique historical intricacies and details.
Project Goal
Managed by Oakland University, the estate serves as a National Historic Landmark, cultural center, and wedding & events venue. Being both a protected museum, and an events venue, the goals of the model extend to both historic preservation and visitor accessibility with emphasis on the unique details and history of the mansion.
Creation
Started in early 2025 with the help of Digital Media Specialist, Daniel Trego, the scanning of Meadow Brook Hall took a number of days, extending into the fall of the same year. Editing and tour creation came shortly after, utilizing the estate’s many informational plaques to construct a number of informational tags to guide the user through the historical significance of the estate and Matilda Dodge Wilson’s impact on the community and state.
Impact
The project currently serves as a digital companion to the estate, with plans to install a permanent touch-screen display in Meadow Brook Hall’s vistor center, granting visitors both unrestricted access to the estate’s interior, as well as a guided informational walkthrough.
